Joey Batson is a portrait photographer based in Boston, MA. He grew up in Douglas, MA and began taking photos as a teenager. Joey’s approach is unique in that he tries to cater each photoshoot to his subject’s personal style and taste.

How it Started

Like most people, family photos are kind of a big deal in my family. My mom still has old photo albums on her book shelf with hundreds of meticulously organized photographs spread cover to cover. My uncle, Larry, has been a brilliant photographer since before I was born and photographs all of our family events. Growing up, every family gathering was followed by Larry sharing an album of photos with everyone - somewhat of a family ritual, if you will.

I first took an interest in photography as a teenager growing up in Douglas, MA. Some of my first “professional” shoots were for a local indoor floor hockey league; where the dim, flickering lights above the rink didn’t give me much to work with, but I’ve come a long way since then.

How it’s Going

Photography has taken me places that I never would have imagined. I’ve photographed everything from rugby games and cute dogs to Vietnamese tea ceremonies and product marketing photos. Using my camera gives me an excuse to step out of my comfort zone and get to know people in a unique way. Over the years, I’ve tried to diversify my portfolio by dabbling in photography for sports, senior portraits, weddings & engagements, corporate events, marketing, family portraits, astrophotography, landscapes, and more. I live for this.
